Wine Pairing Doesn’t Have to Be Fancy — Just Smart

What I’ve learned from wine class, a few handmade skirts, and trusting my gut.

Hello Style Pantry friends,

I’ve been deep in a food and wine pairing course (shout out to Coursera), and the biggest takeaway? Balance. The kind that shows up in a crisp white with creamy pasta, or a bold cabernet with a chargrilled steak. It reminded me of how I like to dress: unfussy, thoughtful, and stitched with care (sometimes literally).

This week, I’ve been living in a few simple pieces I made myself: a striped mini, a full A-line white skirt, and the blue Mykort tennis skirt you’ll see below. None are showy, but each one feels like me. And pairing them with an old sweatshirt or black tee? Same concept as matching wine to food: balance flavor, mood, and occasion.

I made this striped knee-length on a whim and haven’t taken it off since. It’s flirty but grounded—especially when I throw on a comfy sweatshirt and slides. My blue cropped style is no longer available from my favorite denim brand Ayr, but try this.
